About the Founders
They say that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and in Morgan Hutchinson’s case, that certainly rings true. Morgan was living in China with her husband, Brett, when she became pregnant, and determined to wear nary a maternity garment, she set out to find chic clothing that would expand with her belly. After the birth of their daughter, it proved even more difficult to find clothes that would meet the frequent and sometimes wardrobe-challenging demands of breastfeeding. Morgan embarked on a mission in the name of fashion.
She scoured online shops, high-end boutiques and big box stores for wardrobe essentials that offered easy access in washable fabrics. It was terribly time consuming and necessitated tons of imagination – two things that most new moms are lacking. After conducting an informal survey of fellow mom-to-be and new mom friends, she discovered that she was not alone.
After moving back to Morgan’s hometown of Murray, Kentucky after four years in China, she and Brett traded the fast pace of the city for a more pastoral setting. They had a daughter, Olive Bee, and began to dream big about their prospective business. They hatched a business plan: offer moms on-trend clothing from designer collections and style them to take the guesswork out of getting dressed.
With Brett’s help on the financial front, Morgan put her former styling and lingerie designer experience to use as they founded BURU in 2013. Today, they travel to the tents of New York Fashion Week to the showrooms of the country’s top ready-to-wear and accessories designers to handpick everyday essentials for new moms and beyond.
