Derby Day Style

"Though we have moved to Salt Lake City, Utah - we will NEVER lose our Kentucky roots!"

As a born and bread Kentucky girl, I am no stranger to the importance of the first Saturday in May.  The Kentucky Derby is not only the best two minutes in sports, it is also (in my humble opinion) the top fashion event of the South!  And though the hat typically takes priority, the dress to match the hat is equally important!

Here are a few of my favorite dresses sure to make a statement at Churchhill Downs!

This lovely lilac shift dress by 10 Crosby Derek Lam is super chic and super comfortable for a long day at the tracks.  Pair yours with a coordinating pastel hat or go with a black and white combo for a sophisticated look.

No one does flirty feminine better than Milly!  This floral organza shirtdress (in Kentucky blue) is a flawless choice for the Run for the Roses.  For your hat choice, how about adding a matte blue gross grain ribbon and one of two fresh white roses to a classic black hat for head-to-toe Derby Day perfection.

Nothing says springtime like a fresh white sundress.  And nothing looks lovelier with a sterling silver mint julep cup in hand than head-to-toe white.  Style this Rebecca Minkoff LWD with a crisp white, wide-brimmed hat and a hot pink lip to complete the look.

Sometimes the easiest way to make a statement is through color.  This Milly shirtdress is a great style to wear postpartum or pre-summer diet.  The shape is non-clingy and the 3/4 length sleeves help hide any upper arm flaws.  A hot pink or citrus shade hat will really pop with the chartreuse silk.  We recommend a nude shoe to let the dress speak for itself, plus it will help elongate your legs.

Most Derby goers choose mini dresses or styles that hit just above or below the knee.  I love the idea of mixing it up with a dramatic, yet not overly dressy maxi dress.  This color block maxi, in poplin fabric by Rachel Comey is an instant classic.  Add an element of wow with a bright red hat and a printed clutch for a look fit for Millionaire's Row.

Not going to the Derby this year?  No worries, all of these dresses (minus the solid white one) will work perfectly for summertime weddings and baby showers!

To celebrate Kentucky Derby style, we are having a "Derby Dress" Sale!  Use code: DERBY to receive $50 off any dress order over $175.  Doesn't have to be just one dress (in case you find an already marked down style that you like!).
