BURU Welcomes: Rachel Comey
Rachel Comey is quite possibly the coolest cat on the fashion block. And, it's not just because she live streams them on her website.
After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in sculpture, she moved to New York City and became involved in the music scene by designing costumes and sets for gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello. In 2001, while making painted pinstripe t-shirts, a friend, working for David Bowie, told her that he was interested in buying a few. Not knowing how to price them, the friend advised her to charge a lot of money "...because - it's David Bowie." She settled on a $100 each. Bowie agreed, and her line was born. Using credit cards, interns and friends, she quietly started her namesake menswear label. The buzz quickly grew, and she generated a very loyal following. Soon after she expanded into womenswear.
In less than a decade, Rachel has become known as one of the industries fashion-forward thinkers. She is ahead of almost every curve from culottes to upcoming denim trends. Her artful prints, thoughtful details and fabric selections blend effortlessly creating an offbeat charm.
On top of all of this...Rachel is a fabulous working mom of two . We are so thankful for her support of BURU and her understanding of our goals to make #momstyle more fun...and more accessible!
