Celebrate the upcoming holiday with your kids as you celebrate all the hard-working American workers and their achievements! Below are a few craft ideas that will be fun for you and your kids over the three day weekend.

Career Collage

Have your child(ren) create a collage on a poster board or printer paper of a career they find fascinating or what they want to be when they grow up. Cut images from magazines, newspapers and/or print images from the internet. While they create, ask them why they're choosing those items to represent that career. Once they've finished, ask them to explain the collage to you. Also ask them why they want to do that when they're older or why that profession fascinates them.

What You'll Need:

  • Magazines and/or newspapers.
  • Poster board or printer paper.
  • Kid-safe scissors.
  • Glue or tape.
  • Markers.
  • (Optional) Stickers.

Box Town

Make a town out of old shoeboxes, tissue boxes and spare cardboard boxes lying around the house with your little one(s)! Decorate the outside of the boxes with construction paper, markers, stickers, beads, pom poms, glitter, whatever you want!

Once dry, set up the buildings on a table top, shelf or floor. You can also make a road for your town with black construction paper and a white pencil. Feel free to add trees, cars and other town necessities. As you make each building, talk about what people do inside them.

Building ideas: library, school, office, grocery store, police department, fire department, postal service, dry cleaner, hardware store, boutique shops, studios.

What You'll Need:

  • Paper/cardboard boxes. (Tissue boxes, shoeboxes, etc.)
  • Tape and/or glue.
  • Markers.
  • Construction paper and/or printer paper.
  • Kid-safe scissors.
  • (Optional) Stickers.
  • (Optional) Glitter.
  • (Optional) Pom poms.
  • (Optional) Beads.

Homemade Stethoscope

Let your child be a doctor or nurse for the day by making a stethoscope! Connect a small plastic funnel to a plastic hose using tape or glue. Then have your child hold the end of the hose to his/her ear and place the funnel end on your chest to hear your heartbeat! Then have them place the funnel on their own chest to hear their own heartbeat! Click HERE to see an alternative way to make a DIY stethoscope.

What You'll Need:

  • Small plastic funnel.
  • Short plastic hose or tube.
  • Tape.
